If your nephew never manually saved, then you can load the manual save slot and it should be your original save, but otherwise it is all gone. This just happened to me as well. I'm about 50 hours into TotK and nearly finished with the main quest (I just got the "Destroy Ganondorf" quest), but honestly, I think that BotW is the better game. TotK is a game that's full of stuff to do, but like others have said, there's not necessarily a lot of cohesion. Even with 15 hearts and a fully upgraded armor set you're still one-shotted by the same mobs from the beginning of the game, guess you need 40 hearts to make the game even close to fair. Instead Link turned into Legolas because you need to use the bow 80% of the time to just survive the one-hit kills with melee..
